Dr. Seltzer's expertise helps
rejuvenate people's skin

Bill Matthies used to look in the mirror and see a face weathered by too much sun.
"I used to surf a lot and be out in the sun," the 66 year old Studio City resident said. "I had a lot of sun damage because I like the outdoors."
But these days, a decidedly younger looking face looks back at him from the mirror. And he owes it all to Dr. Robert B. Seltzer.
Seltzer, a Pasadena dermatologist who specializes in cosmetic treatments, tackled Matthies problem with a series of non-invasive laser treatments.
And the results?
"My skin looks about 10 years younger and it seems like there's just more blood circulation,"said Matthies, who works as a sculptor. I couldn't be happier."
And that's music to Seltzer's ears.
"I can look at someone for about 10 minutes and explain to them the different approaches we could take, depending on their lifestyle and the kind of outcome they are expecting," Seltzer said.
Seltzer's East Green Street office, the Advanced Laser and Anti-aging Medical Center, offers a variety of treatments that are designed to non-surgically reduce the ravages of time.
Using state-of-the-art lasers, topical creams and other light sources, Seltzer can treat the effects of sun damage, Rosacea, broken capillaries, scarring, stretch marks or cellulite with skin rejuvenation, repair and lifting treatments.
Laser resurfacing is a controlled burning procedure. Lasers are used to vaporize superficial layers o facial skin, a process that can remove not only wrinkles and lines caused by sun damage and facial expressions, but also acne scars, some folds and creases around the nose and mouth.
A Fraxel laser treatment, for example, is a gentle skin resurfacing technology that improves texture, tone, pore size and wrinkles.
The treatment erases unwanted acne scars, brown spots and stretch marks. Fraxel also is an effective wrinkle treatment.
The clinic's Photodynamic therapy can dramatically repair the effects of Rosacea, aging and sun-damaged skin.
Other treatments can lighten the dark circles some people have under their eyes, or remove unwanted tattoos or hair.
Seltzer's business, which operates an additional Advanced Laser Center in West Hollywood, also offers treatment for skin cancer.
The center's biggest demographic is women ages 30 to 55.
"That accounts for about 65 to 70 percent of the cosmetic side of the business," said Seltzer, 59, who lives in Studio City. I also do a lot of treatments for acne scarring. About 20 to 25 percent of th the rejuvenations we do are on men."
Seltzer, who was born in New York, holds a bachelor of arts degree from Queens College, New York, and a doctor of medicine degree from USC's School of Medicine. He completed his residency at USC Medical Center and has been board certified since 1978.
"I've been using lasers for 20 years," he said. "I like all the toys. I have the latest technology and all of the newest machines. The Fraxel repair is new-there are only two or three people in Los Angeles who have it."
Statistics from the American Academy of Dermatology reveal that facial rejuvenation is one of the top three cosmetic procedures that patients request.
Unprotected sun exposure is the leading cause of aging skin, and the amount and depth of wrinkles depends on the amount of sun exposure, according to the academy.
